Lips: Aftercare

Micropigmentation procedures are affected by the “canvas” (your skin) that they are performed on. Lifestyle, medications, smoking, metabolism, facial surgery and other procedures, and age of skin all contribute to fading. Immediately after the procedure the area treated will look much darker and much more defined (as if it were "painted
on").

Be prepared for final results to be significantly lighter in color and the overall appearance much softer and more natural after the healing occurs. This transition is based on how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates.

The exfoliation (peeling) process usually occurs around Day 4-5 and will be complete around about Day 7. It is not uncommon to lose up to 70% of the color on the first application. DO NOT WORRY! 2-3 applications may be required to achieve the desired results. You will be receiving a second application- a "perfecting session" in a few weeks. At that time, the color will be.
adjusted to your liking. We can add very easily, but it is much more difficult to remove! You must wait at least 8 weeks between applications. Touching up a tattoo prematurely may result in a ruined tattoo. Though rare, infection is possible. If you see signs of infection such as persistent increased redness or swelling, fever, drainage, or oozing, contact your doctor immediately.

Apply ice packs as necessary to prevent or reduce swelling.
Apply a thin coat white petroleum (such as Vaseline) to the area twice a day for 3-4 days, before showering and after
cleansing.
Avoid sweating such as from vigorous exercise for 24 hours.

For AT LEAST one week post-procedure AND until healing is complete:
o Keep your hands clean and avoid touching the affected area(s).
o Do not use peroxide or Neosporin on treated areas.
o Avoid tanning beds, sun, chlorine spas and pools, soap and chemicals (including skin cleansers, makeup removers, alpha hydroxyl creams, and tooth whitening toothpaste) near the treated area.
o Avoid exposing the area excessive moisture or humidity, such as: facials, swimming, whirlpools (hot tubs), saunas, steam rooms, and steamy showers.
o Avoid Retin-A, moisturizers, glycolic acids, exfoliants and anti-aging products at all times (not just during healing) on all micro-pigmented areas. These can cause pigments to fade and lighten prematurely.

Care For Your Lips

  • DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. This is a 2 step process, and sometimes it is a multiple step process.

  •  Immediately after your procedure (also days 2-5),  brows will appear darker, solid, and painted on. We call this the “What did I do?” Phase. You may notice that there are harsh edges and slightly different shapes on the brows, one may be slightly higher or longer than the other, one side seems to have more strokes etc. This is normal - the skin swells and the brows are more prominent after and during the healing stage. They may also have a RED tint. This is because the skin is scratched and inflamed. Also, our pigment is pre-modified to ensure it doesn’t heal ashy in the skin. This will go away after they heal under the skin.

  • Once they have healed under the skin, the small things will not be noticeable and all of the edges soften. Any changes or add ons can be made at your touchup, nothing can be changed or added until your touchup. Please do not worry and call us during this healing process unless it is an emergency and we will be glad to help.

  • Around days 4-5 you may experience flaking and your brows may look dry. DO NOT PICK your flakes, let them fall off naturally. If it comes off prematurely, missing hair stokes will result and cause patchy brows.

  • BE PATIENT during your 2-3 week healing process, your brows will change and appear different from day to day, THIS IS NORMAL. They may go through a “Disappearing Stage”, where the color may seem to have all faded away or faded in some areas. DO NOT WORRY, the skin is exfoliating and this is normal. Color will return at week 2-4. Any that does not return can be added at touchup, no sooner.

  • Your brow tattoo will take up to 6-12 weeks to fully heal. When the crust comes, off the hair strokes may seem faint, this is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brow tattoo. Give your brows a few weeks and the hair strokes will become clearer.

  • You may experience itchiness in the brows after 10 days and up to 2 months because of the healing of the dermal layer.

  • Not everyones brows can heal clean and crisp. Hair strokes for oilier skin types tend to heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal more crisp and defined.

Lips: Pre-care

  • If you have any history of cold sores/ fever blisters/ herpes simple or have ever had chicken pox, you must
contact your physician to obtain and take the proper prescription medication to prevent such outbreaks for at least
7 days before and after the procedure. Many physicians prescribe capsules of 500mg Valtrex. Follow your
    physician’s instructions.

  • ALL PERMANENT COSMETIC PROCEDURES ARE MULTI-SESSION PROCESSES. An initial application is
incomplete until after a follow-up appointment, which must be scheduled approximately 4-8 weeks after your
initial appointment. There is a fee of $75 (starting price) for follow-up appointment.
